Becoming more active and weight-loss: Wellness Tips for Summer

To help with those ‘feel-good’ Summer vibes it’s time to get active. LighterLife’s head of nutrition and research, Dr Kelly Johnston, explains why it’s vital to take time out to focus on yourself using the below, tried and tested wellness tip to move your body more and feel better this Summer.

Get ready to move your body more. 

Too often we find ourselves either desk-bound for long periods through no fault of our own, or even just seated and scrolling mindlessly on our phones – which of course we are all often guilty of, but which fortunately, we have full control over.

Bodies are made to move and certainly there are many activities that we can do which all count towards our physical activity targets. Exercise in the UK is at an all-time low and just small changes can make a big difference if you’re currently quite sedentary.

You’ll notice more health benefits once you become more active.

Exercise also has so many benefits, like improving memory and brain function, help lowering your blood pressure and improving your heart’s health. It can also improve your sleep quality and can reduce the feelings of anxiety and depression you may have.

Maybe start by getting back into nature and going for a nice walk. Either with a friend so you can motivate each other and have a good catch-up in the process, or alone is just as good but with some inspiring music to help you on your way. Other activities include regular gardening or cleaning which can burn a surprisingly large number of calories, or yoga which is great for relieving mental stress and also increasing flexibility and muscle tone.
