I’ve tried so many diets over the years. You name it, I’ve tried it. Even the baby food diet, very weird, I know. I had some success through another diet company once before, but then put all the weight back on during lockdown. None of these diets had enough control, or clear enough boundaries. Then I heard the fabulous Denise Welch’s podcast where she was talking about the LighterLife programme, and how it gives her total control without the calorie counting, or the stress of having to find a healthy option on the go during a busy day. It made a light go on in my head, and I thought This. Is. The. One that’s going to be a fresh start for my relationship with food. Enough is enough, it’s time to make a permanent change in my life.
Following the plan
I can’t lie, the hunger during the first week wasn’t too bad at first, but then it really became a case of mind over matter, hunger vs. my dreams. So I kept visualising myself at my goal weight, the clothes I’ll wear, the way I’ll feel. And once ketosis kicks in, gosh it’s like a new lease of life, lots of energy, no hunger, and a clearer mind to rebuild yourself.
I lost 12lbs in my first week and those quick results really helped spur me on. Seeing my body change and get ever closer to my target weight every week was amazing. I felt so in control, so full of energy, so clear headed, and able to attack each day and achieve all my goals.
One of the best parts about the LighterLife programme is the one-to-one Mentor help. Valerie’s constant support and advice has been key to my LighterLife success story – understanding my unhealthy eating habits and working out how I can get rid of them for good. She’s helped me realise that what I didn’t see as an unhealthy habit before has had a major effect on my weight and my health.
And I LOVED my weekly CBT Mindfulness sessions, especially the Hot Topics which I could tailor to my personal experiences and aspects of my life that weren’t helping me. Hot Topics are very thought provoking and offer a fabulous lasting message at each session.
My family, friends, and colleagues have been incredibly supportive as well, asking about my progress each week, cheering me on and holding me up. They gave me the added willpower to carry on and achieve my weight loss goal.
How do I feel now?
I’ve been shopping for holiday clothes and I’ve already packed my case, I can’t wait to wear them out and feel great. I’ve even managed to earn some extra money selling my old clothes and it feels amazing to get them out of my life and make way for my new wardrobe to grow.
Before LighterLife, I couldn’t even walk up the stairs without being out of breath. Now I’ve completed the Couch to 5K programme and am feeling alive again. I’ve also taken up swimming and I’m setting new Personal Bests in all my activities. My health has done a complete 180 and I’m truly a different person.
Lessons learned for the future
Food isn’t the answer, even though it’s an easy thing to turn to. So often we feel even worse after we’ve “treated ourselves” don’t we? I’ve also learned planning is essential for maintaining a balanced life. The more we plan, prepare, and put in the practice, the quicker we’ll form those healthy and sustainable habits.
If you’ve been wondering about starting LighterLife, all I can say is DO IT! Take the plunge. Yes, it’s a challenge, but your reward is a fresh start, a bright future, and a new life. I honestly believe the more people who find LighterLife and change their lives the better.
