“I’ve tried to lose weight many times. I was a member of a gym right next door to Greggs bakery. Over 2 years I never went to the gym, not one single time, Greggs however was a different story!
I love my weekly group sessions…
I needed some external motivation and I found that with my Mentor, Debbie. She’s brilliant and has really helped keep me motivated and I love our Monday group sessions, they’re supportive and great fun.
My brain was telling me to eat more. But what I’ve learnt during our weekly sessions is that the way food is produced with high levels of salt, sugar, and fat, can trigger an addictive response, a lot like drug addiction. Most importantly I’m working on strategies to improve my relationship with food and my personal challenge with some foods. I’ve found that when it comes to food, having a routine works really well for me and once I finish the maintenance plan, I’m going to put a good routine in place for myself.
My advice would be if you’re not 100% committed, then return to it when you are. Stick to the plan, don’t dip in and out as it’ll make it harder and delay your progress. Also, join the group sessions and get involved, the support helps, as do the techniques that we discuss each week.
Week 1…
The first week was OK for me to be honest. Nothing major. I was motivated and I drank loads of water to keep myself going. Once I got into the zone, I found it to be the most straightforward and easiest diet in my opinion. There are no conventional food choices, which for me really helps. Plus, it’s dead simple and quick. I don’t feel hungry, so I’m not having a constant battle and having to overuse willpower.
Since losing weight, I can do…
Everything! But most importantly for me is my mobility. I was struggling to walk anywhere, my knees hurt, and everything was much harder. Life becomes quite hard when you’re carrying loads of weight. The other day my lovely girlfriend Caroline and I went for a 5-mile walk. Previously I would not have been able to walk 500 feet. I’m also really into photography and am now able to grab my camera and go exploring. Pretty much everything becomes easier having lost some weight. Previously I was carrying another person with me everywhere I went!
My wardrobe is shrinking! I’m selling off my bigger clothes to make a little bit of money but will donate lots of them to charity. It’s really satisfying to get into clothes that I haven’t been able to wear for years and I’m able to shop in ‘conventional’ shops!
