"Getting my weight under control has been a battle since I was a child. As a Personal Assistant working in London, quick and convenient, often calorie-laden, snacks and lunches were a regular occurrence for me.

After spending years yo-yo dieting, enough was enough; my weight was really starting to get me down. My trigger moment came after going to get my blood pressure checked and to talk about reducing my medication. I was rudely told by my GP that I’d be on medication for life and that there was no point in discussing the long term affects or looking at ways to reduce it; I felt my GP had written me off because I was fat. The experience left me furious, so I took it into my own hands to find a way that I would no longer need to take blood pressure tablets every day.p>

I needed a weight-loss plan that would teach me how to keep the weight off

I’d already followed a very low-calorie diet (VLCD) in the past, but they hadn’t offered counselling. During the previous VLCD, I’d briefly see a consultant once a week to get my meal replacements, but it didn’t help me to change my mentality towards food, and I went on to regain.

I joined LighterLife in November 2016, to ensure my New Year started with a healthy goal, and signed up to the Total plan with weekly telephone group sessions. I found this part of Lighter Life incredibly appealing, and it was the extra support I needed this time around.

My LighterLife group was so supportive

Each week I dial into my group call, which is run by a trained LighterLife counsellor, and we are taken through a different activity. These sessions help me to understand my negative relationship with food, and ultimately change my mindset. I’ve discovered that I need to learn to focus and give more attention on myself. At 46 I thought I knew myself inside out but I’ve honestly learnt so much. I am so much more mindful about what my body needs.
