Once the clocks fall back we start to experience lighter mornings coupled with darker evenings for the next few months. But soon enough it is that time of year that the child within us LOVES – Bonfire night. Bonfire night traditionally takes place on 5th November each year, however the bigger displays tend to happen during the first weekend after the clocks going back.
Although this is an enjoyable time of year, the darker nights can also be the trigger for some people suffering with SAD – Seasonal affective disorder, which is a type of depression that comes and goes in a seasonal pattern; sometimes known as “winter depression” because the symptoms are usually more apparent and more severe during the winter. The lack of sunlight leads to lower serotonin levels – a hormone that affects your mood, appetite and sleep.
It can also be a time that we feel the need for warming foods to comfort us. Being outside during daylight hours and seeking sunshine when possible can help sufferers of SAD, plus swapping your cold shakes for Foodpacks that you can enjoy hot can give you that warm internal cuddle. Some of our favourite warming products include our Spaghetti Bolognese, Fragrant Thai Noodles FastPot, Superfood Green Soup and our Hot Chocolate shake hack – Yummy!
So enjoy this special time of year and embrace the bright crispy days by wrapping up warm and heading outside to find your sparkle.
