‘Application’ means the LighterLife App for recording health and personal data.
the ‘Data Controller’ (or ‘Owner’) means LighterLife UK Limited.
‘User’ means you, the individual using this Application
‘Application’ means Application the hardware or software tool by which the Personal Data of the User is collected.

Information LighterLife Gathers and Tracks
LighterLife gathers two types of information about users:
Personal Information is any piece of information which refers or relates to you personally such as your name, e-mail address and postal address. We will collect personal information from you only if you voluntarily submit such information to us.
Among the types of Personal Data that this Application collects, by itself or through third parties, there are: movement activity, Cookies and Usage data.
The Personal Data may be freely provided by the User, or collected automatically when using this Application.
Failure to provide certain Personal Data may make it impossible for this Application to provide its services.
Users are responsible for any Personal Data of third parties obtained, published or shared through this Application and confirm that they have the third party’s consent to provide the Data to the Owner.
You do not have to provide us with personal information to visit this website. You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you might not be able to take advantage of many of our features.
Your supply of personal details, including e-mail address, to us is provided by you free of charge, and in supplying such information it is not dependent on us providing anything in return.
Non-Personal Information: This is information LighterLife gathers through aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our sites. For operation and maintenance purposes, this Application and any third party services may collect files that record interaction with this Application (System logs) or use for this purpose other Personal Data (such as IP Address).
There are many features on this website for which no registration is required. However, if you are interested in obtaining information, products or services from LighterLife, or in participating in certain activities on this website (such as locating the counsellor in your area, subscribing to our high quality magazine, or expressing your interest in becoming a self-employed LighterLife Counsellor or a LighterLife Friend), you may need to provide us with information about yourself. For example, to subscribe to the LighterLife magazine, we need to collect information about you to process the transaction, fulfill your order and provide you with the services and communications you expect. This information may include, but is not limited to, details such as your name, your address and your credit card details.
Our website and services are not designed for, or directed to, individuals under the age of 16.
We will never knowingly request personal information from anyone under the age of 18 without requesting parental consent.
LighterLife tracks user traffic patterns throughout all of our sites. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users. LighterLife does break down overall usage statistics according to a user’s domain name, browser type, and MIME type by reading this information from the browser string (information contained in every user’s browser).
What are cookies?
Cookies are files that contain small amounts of data. They are placed on your computer or other device by the websites you visit.

How We Use the Information
The use of the collected Data – The Data concerning the User is collected to allow LighterLife to provide its services, as well as for the following purposes: Access to third party services’ accounts, Handling activity data, Interaction with external social networks and platforms and Registration and authentication.
LighterLife uses your personal information to maintain and manage your account, deliver services that you have requested, and generally enhance your experience on our website. Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Processing your orders for products and groups to be provided to you
- Locating and putting you in touch with the Counsellor in your area
- Processing and tracking your membership and magazine subscriptions
- Processing your request to become a LighterLife Counsellor
- Providing the services you request
- Processing and tracking your purchases of LighterLife products and services to a LighterLife Friend who refers you to LighterLife
- Sending you magazine renewal notifications
- Sending you other administrative and marketing communications
- Sending you surveys
- Provide you with information which may be of interest to you from time to time (if you consent to receiving this)
We use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don’t like based on traffic to those areas. We do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better service for you. We track search terms entered in search functions as one of many measures of what interests our users. But we don’t track which terms a particular user enters.
Sharing your personal information with third parties
LighterLife contracts with other companies to obtain certain services on our behalf, including credit card processing, delivery, and conducting surveys. We provide these companies only with the information they need to perform their services, and they are permitted to use the information only for that specific purpose or as required by law, or if you have agreed to any additional use or sharing of your information.
LighterLife will share your personal information with Counsellors from time to time to enable them to contact you for the following purposes:
- Provide you with counselling services
- Conduct market research and surveys on behalf of Lighterlife (if you have chosen to participate)
- To send you information which may be of interest to you (if you have consented to receive this)
LighterLife will share your personal information with Friends who are licensed by LighterLife to refer customers to LighterLife and who have referred you to us, or where you have quoted their unique tracking code when you have purchased a product and/or service from us. The information we may share with them will be limited to your name, e-mail address, and the volume/value of Foodpacks and/or groups sessions you have purchased from either a Counsellor or from LighterLife2U.
How is the Information Protected
LighterLife operates secure data networks protected by industry standard firewall and password protection systems. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary and only authorised individuals have access to the information provided by our customers.
We take reasonable precautions to keep your personal data secure, and require third party data processors to do likewise. All personally identifiable information is subject to restricted access to prevent unauthorised access, modification or misuse. Please note, however, that we may release your personal data if required to do so by law, or by search warrant, subpoena or court order.
Under UK data protection law, your rights include:
- a right to withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data to which you have previously consented.
- a right to obtain a copy of the personal data which we hold about you.
- a right to object to the processing of your personal data for the purpose of direct marketing.
- a right to object to the processing of your personal data by a LighterLife Friend.
- a right to have incorrect personal data we hold about you corrected.
Please note that the Application does not support “Do Not Track” requests. To determine whether any of the third party services it uses honour the “Do Not Track” requests, please read their privacy policies.
You can exercise your right to prevent processing of your personal data and “opt out” at anytime by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org inserting “UNSUBSCRIBE” as the subject.
To obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you, please write to us at the following address: Privacy Co-ordinator, LighterLife, Cavendish House, Parkway, Harlow Business Park, Harlow, Essex CM19 5QF enclosing your postal details, proof of ID (a copy of your driving license or passport), and a cheque for £10 payable to LighterLife UK Limited.
Mode and place of processing the Data
Methods of processing:
The Data Controller processes the Data of Users in a proper manner and shall take appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or unauthorized destruction of the Data.
The Data processing is carried out using computers and/or IT enabled tools, following organizational procedures and modes strictly related to the purposes indicated. In addition to the Data Controller, in some cases, the Data may be accessible to certain types of persons in charge, involved with the operation of the site (administration, sales, marketing, legal, system administration) or external parties (such as third party technical service providers, mail carriers, hosting providers, IT companies, communications agencies) appointed, if necessary, as Data Processors by the Owner. The updated list of these parties may be requested from the Data Controller at any time.
The Data is processed at the Data Controller’s operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved with the processing are located. For further information, please contact the Data Controller.
The Data is kept for the time necessary to provide the service requested by the User, or stated by the purposes outlined in this document, and the User can always request that the Data Controller suspend or remove the data.

By default, this includes certain User’s Data such as id, name, picture, gender, and their locale. Certain connections of the User, such as the Friends, are also available. If the User has made more of their Data public, more information will be available.
Provides access to the ‘About Me’ section of the profile.
Access the User’s contact email address.
Access to third party services’ accounts
This type of services allows this Application to access Data from your account on a third party service and perform actions with it.
These services are not activated automatically, but require explicit authorization by the User.
Access to the Facebook account (This Application)
This service allows this Application to connect with the User’s account on the Facebook social network, provided by Facebook, Inc.
Permissions asked: About Me and Contact email.
Handling activity data
This type of services allows the Owner to use the activity data collected by your device in order for this Application to operate or to provide specific features. This may include movements, heartbeat, change in altitude or data about the surroundings.
Depending on what is described below, third parties may be involved in the activity tracking.
Most devices allow for the User to control which Data is accessed or stored.
Apple HealthKit (Apple Inc.)
HealthKit is an activity data handling service provided by Apple Inc. that enables the Owner to access or store activity data.
Personal Data collected: movement activity.
Registration and authentication
By registering or authenticating, Users allow this Application to identify them and give them access to dedicated services.
Depending on what is described below, third parties may provide registration and authentication services. In this case, this Application will be able to access some Data, stored by these third party services, for registration or identification purposes.
Facebook Authentication (Facebook, Inc.)
Facebook Authentication is a registration and authentication service provided by Facebook, Inc. and is connected to the Facebook social network.
Linking to other websites
Our website may contain hyperlinks to websites owned and operated by third parties. These websites have their own privacy policies and we urge you to review them. They will govern the use of personal information you submit whilst visiting these websites. We do not accept any responsibility or liability for the privacy practices of such third party websites and your use of such websites is at your own risk.
Interaction with external social networks and platforms
This type of services allows interaction with social networks or other external platforms directly from the pages of this Application.
The interaction and information obtained through this Application are always subject to the User’s privacy settings for each social network.
This type of service might still collect traffic data for the pages where the service is installed, even when Users do not use it.

The Facebook Like button and social widgets are services allowing interaction with the Facebook social network provided by Facebook, Inc.

The User’s Personal Data may be used for legal purposes by the Data Controller, in Court or in the stages leading to possible legal action arising from improper use of this Application or the related services.
The User declares to be aware that the Data Controller may be required to reveal personal data upon request of public authorities.
Extent of Terms
The services available on this website and use of the Application are only for persons resident in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. Information regarding products, services, rates and promotions are applicable to these countries only.
