I started dieting when I was 18, and tried all kinds of diets, even a private slimming clinic. Nothing worked except LighterLife. Back in 2006 I lost 3 stone, then another 6lbs while on the Management plan. But during COVID I put on weight again, and felt uncomfortable and lacking in energy.
Health was my primary concern, I was getting out of breath going up the stairs. And I was uncomfortable in my clothes, meaning I had to keep buying larger and larger clothes, so finance also came into the equation.
Why did I choose LighterLife?
Originally I decided to try LighterLife having seen the results with some of my work colleagues (I was a full-time teacher but am now retired). I also liked the fact that there was a distinct end to the plan, and I didn’t have to weigh food items or cook anything. It was all so easy.
Following the plan
I started TotalFast again in May 2023 and lost 2 stone. I think it was slower this time around as I was older. But now I’m back on the Management plan and maintaining my weight loss.
This time I wasn’t hungry at all and, if I got the urge for something sweet, I’d go for Chocolate Raisin or Peanut Bars. I also love the Chocolate Shakes, Blueberry Pancakes, Chocolate Mug Cakes, and Spaghetti Bolognaise.
How did having a Mentor and our CBT Mindfulness activities help?
My Mentor, Natalie, is brilliant, really supportive and helpful. She always delivers the weekly mindfulness messages in new thought provoking ways, so I became more aware of potentially harmful influences.
The first thing that struck me was that we often eat, not because we’re hungry, but because of the time of day, or a social gathering, or comfort eating. The LighterLife group mindfulness sessions opened my mind to this.
Having weekly meetings also kept me focussed, knowing I was going to be weighed so there was no chance to cheat. And it was good to listen to other members and to be able to provide them with encouragement following my previous success with LighterLife.
Natalie’s WhatsApp group is great and we get a message of encouragement from her every day. I also still see my original Management Group from 2007, we meet regularly and have a fantastic bond.
My husband was my biggest supporter even though he never found my weight a problem. Other people were sceptical but I ignored them. The proof was in my weight loss.
What can I do now that I couldn’t before losing weight?
While I was still teaching, I found I had a lot more energy in the classroom and around the school. I could enjoy weekend walks without getting tired as I wasn’t dragging excess weight around with me.
Now I feel much more confident in my appearance. I’ve recently joined a Line Dancing Class and some more Choirs as I have the energy and confidence to try anything.
My new lighter life
As part of my old Management group, we had our “Colours” done. This was a brilliant experience and I found buying clothes that I knew suited me gave me new found confidence. I later had my style done and I still only wear colours that are “Vibrant Autumn.” It’s part of me and I wouldn’t have considered it if I hadn’t lost weight.
What have I learned that will help me keep the weight off long term?
- Moderation in all things.
- Ignore crooked thoughts.
- Ignore negative comments.
- Drink more water.
Annette’s Top Tip
It’s fast weight loss and, if you take advantage of having a Mentor, you can really reap the benefits.
Go for it, follow the guidance, and contact your Mentor when you have any negative impulses. Those crooked thoughts can be very persuasive…
