Andy
By Andy’s teens he was self-conscious and the
diets began. His mum would be supportive, then she’d cook huge
meals to feed him up in the evenings and it would have been rude to
refuse. During his teens he weighed around 14 stone. He loved
sports and was football captain. However, when it came to county
trials he lost out. Andy knew it was because he was overweight and
not quite fit or fast enough.
At university, the weight really piled on,
thanks to a diet of crisps, chocolate and takeaways. By 21 Andy had
reached 20 stone. After university he moved back home. Sadly, his
mum passed away, and the family feasts were replaced with fast food
and ready meals, as his Dad and him were useless cooks. When he got
his own flat he’d have mates round for takeaways and beer, then
there was the socialising that his work as a barrister involved.
The only healthy part of his life was sport. Andy had been seeing
his girlfriend Skevi since he was 19 and, at 25, they got married.
She never complained about his size, despite being very slim
herself. It was only after seeing the photos of their wedding and
honeymoon that she suggested he do something about it.
The LighterLife Programme
Around the time he was embarking on his usual
diet attempts a friend signed up to LighterLife. He raved about it
and urged Andy to join but he resisted. He was sceptical about
“slimming clubs” and didn’t like the idea of replacing meals with
Foodpacks. But as he saw the weight fall off his friend over the
next few weeks Andy was tempted. One day Andy realised he was so
fed up of stuffing his face that a break from food was what he
needed. The first week was the hardest, purely because his life
felt so different. Andy wasn’t hungry, but he didn’t know what to
do with himself when he wasn’t feeding his face all day. By his
week-one weigh-in he’d lost 12lb and felt so amazing it carried him
into his second week.
Skevi and Andy now also have a son,
Christopher, who’s six months old, so LighterLife isn’t the only
life-changing experience he’s had. He said it’s great to know he’s
a healthy dad who’ll be able to chase after a toddler. ‘I’ve loved
being able to buy new clothes. My waist has dropped from 48in to
36in and I can wear smarter, fashionable suits for work. I feel
people take me much more seriously. My only regret is not
discovering LighterLife sooner. I’ve even moved from goalkeeper to
centre back – and I’m team captain again!’
