Diabetes

There are two kinds of diabetes: type 1 and type 2.

Type 1 diabetes

Some diets are unsuitable for people with type 1 diabetes, for example very-low-calorie diets unless they take place in a hospital setting, where specialised levels of medical monitoring and supervision are available. For this reason people with type 1 diabetes can’t join LighterLife.

Type 2 diabetes

Type 2 diabetes can be managed by diet, exercise, tablets and, in some cases, insulin injections. If you have type 2 diabetes you may be eligible to join LighterLife as long as your GP agrees to monitor your medication regularly.

Before starting LighterLife  you must have a management plan for your diabetes agreed with your GP.

If abstaining from conventional food, you’ll need to have your medication reviewed by your GP regularly, your 28 day check is a good time to do this.

Up to 80% of people with type 2 diabetes can have their medication reduced or stopped by losing weight. Because you’re likely to lose weight rapidly on LighterLife , it may be possible to reduce your diabetes medication, under medical supervision, within days.

Diabetes is in the family - and I didn't want to inject myself twice a day.
