Weight management after the LighterLife Total VLCD

2015

Characteristics of successful weight loss maintainers after very low calorie diet-induced weight loss.Hart K, Jones C, Johnston KL. (2015). Poster presented at the 22nd European Congress on Obesity. Obesity Facts, 8(suppl 1):87.‘Greater weight-loss maintenance was associated with less external and emotional eating but greater dietary restraint. Maintenance of weight loss post-VLCD may be facilitated by a range of strategies, most importantly continued group support.’2015 Hart Characteristics of successful weight loss maintainers2014Increased attendance at LighterLife management groups is associated with improved weight maintenance success 1 year after completing a VLCD weight loss programme.Johnston KL, Rolland C, Haynes S, Dyson L, Capehorn M, Broom J, Cox JSA, Hewlett B (2014). Poster presented at the 21st European Congress on Obesity. Obesity Facts, 7(suppl 1):92.‘An inverse relationship between the number of groups attended and the amount of weight regained one year post-weight loss following a VLCD was observed. These results indicate that individuals who regularly attended weight-management groups were more likely to sustain their weight loss. The behavioural-modification work facilitated throughout LighterLife’s weight-management programme may be an important factor in weight-maintenance success.’2014 Johnston Increased attendance at Mgt groupsLong-term weight loss maintenance and management following a VLCD: a 3-year outcome.Rolland C, Johnston KL, Lula S, Macdonald I, Broom J (2014). International Journal of Clinical Practice, March, 68(3):379-87.There is no sound scientific evidence for the common belief that rapid weight loss is associated with poorer long-term weight loss outcomes. The findings of this retrospective analysis of long-term weight loss on the LighterLife Total VLCD and behaviour-change programme (5965 individuals at 1 year post-weight loss, 2044 at 2 years and 580 at 3 years) show that the best predictor of long-term weight loss was a large initial weight loss and corroborate the mounting evidence that long-term weight loss is achievable following a VLCD in motivated individuals with group support and behavioural therapy post-weight loss.

1, 2, 3 and 4 year weight-maintenance outcomes in 6,920 subjects after a mean weight loss of 25.7kg (4st 1lb) using the LighterLife Total VLCD and behaviour-change programme.Lula SI, Mullins G, Jenner CL, Johnston KL, Broom J, Cox JSA, Hewlett B (2013). Obesity Reviews. Poster presented at the 20th European Congress on Obesity, Liverpool, May 2013.‘72%, 53% and 18% of patients were still maintaining a 5%, 10% and 20% weight loss from baseline respectively 4 years after embarking on the LighterLife Management programme. In this cohort of patients… the maintenance of clinically-significant weight loss is still evident up to 4 years later. The data show that meaningful long-term weight maintenance can be achieved by large numbers of patients, provided an ongoing weight-maintenance programme is adhered to.’2013 ECO page 4

1, 2 and 3-year weight maintenance outcomes in 5,965 patients after a mean weight loss of 25.7kg (4st 1lb) using a VLCD and behaviour-change programme.Lula SI, Hallam CL, Mullins G, Dyson L, Broom J, Cox JSA, Hewlett B (2012).
Obesity Reviews, 5(S1):T5:PS2,182.
Poster presented at the 19th European Congress on Obesity, Lyon, May 2012.‘Almost 25% of patients remaining engaged with their LighterLife weight-management counsellor for 3 years kept off 20% of their start weight. Over 60% kept off 10% of their start weight, and nearly 80% kept off a clinically significant 5% of their start weight… The size of the group (n=5965) demonstrates that meaningful weight maintenance over 1 to 3 years is achievable, given the opportunity to participate in a highly effective programme such as LighterLife Total, which supports patients’ ability to make lifestyle changes through TCBT, and an ongoing weight-maintenance programme which supports the sustainability of such changes.’2012 ECO page 2Reporting on 1 and 2 year outcome for weight maintenance in 5328 patients after a mean weight loss of 24.7kg (87.6% of excess weight) using VLCD and behaviour therapy (LighterLife).Hallam CL, Broom J, Mullins G, Cox JSA, Hewlett B (2012). Poster presentation at ASO National Conference, March 2012.‘The percentage of weight-loss maintenance, 1-year post-treatment, was greater in older patients (p<0.01) and improved at BMI≥35 (p<0.05). Patients continuing to engage with LighterLife were able to maintain weight loss at 1 year, with the most successful weight maintenance being among the older and heavier participants.’2012 ASOAssessing the significance of ethnicity on VLCD-induced weight loss and outcomes at 1 year follow-up.Rolland C, Jenner C, Lula S, Dyson L, Broom I (2012). Poster presentation, RCGP Annual Primary Care Conference, Liverpool, 2011.‘Weight loss achieved rapidly on VLCD can be maintained; furthermore, successful weight management may be associated with compliance during weight loss.’2011 RCGP11Reporting on 1-year outcome for weight maintenance in a cohort of 4915 patients after a mean weight loss of 23.4kg on the LighterLife Total VLCD.Hallam C et al (2011). Obesity Reviews, 11(S1),241. Poster presented at 11th International Congress on Obesity, Stockholm, 2010.‘Two years after a mean 24.7% reduction in body weight on the LighterLife Total VLCD, 86% of patients participating in the LighterLife weight-maintenance programme were maintaining a 5% weight loss, 77% were maintaining a 10% weight loss, and 32% were maintaining a 20% weight loss.’2010 ICO page 4Reporting on 3-year outcome for weight maintenance in a cohort of 60 patients after a mean weight loss of 21.6kg (3st 5lb) on the LighterLife Total VLCD.Hallam CL et al (2010). A retrospective study of 237 female patients after an average 29.2kg (4st 8lb) weight loss on the LighterLife Total VLCD.Hallam CL et al (2010). Obesity Reviews, 11(S1),243. Poster presented at 11th International Congress on Obesity, Stockholm, 2010.‘The significant and rapid weight loss achieved on the LighterLife Total VLCD was maintained when conventional food was reintroduced in a structured programme. This contradicts popular opinion that rapid weight loss is associated with rapid weight gain.’2010 ICO page 9
