Though it might be all the rage at the moment, fasting has been around for thousands of years. It is thought that our ancestors went without food for long periods, simply because they had to.
In the absence of eating, fasting forces the body to use it's fat stores for energy and after around 16 hours of fasting; your body becomes reliant on fat-burning almost entirely as its source of fuel.
